Rear-end collision
Holly Morrison, 32, of Santa Claus, was stopped in traffic at the intersection of SR 70 and CR 850 E near Grandview when her 2013 Ford Explorer was struck from behind by a 2014 Toyota Corolla driven by 21-year-old Kalan Bucherl of Boonville. Bucherl told authorities he had briefly looked away from the roadway and when he looked back, he was unable to avoid rear-ending Morrison’s vehicle. Neither driver was injured in the June 18, 5 p.m. accident. Damages were estimated between $5,000-10,000.
Accident on curve
Michael Gerlach, 54, of Troy, was attempting to make a left turn into his driveway off north SR 545 just as a 2006 Toyota Prius, driven by 18-year-old Mabel Powers of Tell City, came from around a curve and collided with his 2015 Chevrolet Silverado. Both vehicles sustained major damage (with a total estimate between $25,000-$50,000) and had to be towed from the scene. Gerlach was not injured in the June 17, 4:54 p.m. collision; Powers was treated at the scene for pain in her hand and knee but refused medical transport to the hospital.
Ran off road
Kiersten Gogel, 16, of Dale, was eastbound on CR 1060 N when, she later told authorities, she accidentally ran the stop sign at the intersection with CR 475 W and ran off the roadway, striking a ditch. Gogel was not injured in the June 16, 9:56 p.m. accident, but damage to her 2012 Ford Fusion was estimated between $2,500-5,000.
Rear-end collision
Avery Vanhoosier, 19, of Tell City, had stopped on SR 545 in Santa Claus due to an Indiana Department of Transportation employee directing traffic, when her 2010 Hyundai Sonata was struck from behind by a 2016 Nissan Sentra driven by 19-year-old William Oliva of Troy. Olivia later told authorities he didn’t see that Vanhoosier had stopped. Both drivers as well as Vanhoosier’s 15-year-old passenger were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Damages in the June 23, 9:47 a.m. accident were estimated between $5,000-$10,000.
