Styls Michael (Mike) Matthews, 82, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023 at his home in Rockport.
Mike was born in Evansville on August 25, 1940, to the late Styls Matthews and Jeanne (Kreisle) Matthews.
Mike attended Culver Military Academy, graduated from Rockport High School in 1958, attended Evansville College, and proudly served in the US Naval Reserve for six years.
For many years, Mike worked in the family automotive business. He was the owner of Matthews Motors Buick, Pontiac, GMC and Matthews Trucking in Rockport/Reo. He was a trophy-winning drag racer, enjoyed playing golf, watching sports, boating on the Ohio River, and spending time with family.
Mike is survived by his beloved daughters, Cindy Stuteville and Mindy Hiles; his beloved son, Michael Patrick Matthews; his three grandchildren, Matthew Stuteville, Luke Hiles and Hannah Hiles; his sister, Patricia Mowen; his brothers, Doug Matthews and Jon Matthews; and his nephew, Eric Deeg.
A special thank you to his devoted brother, Doug, for lovingly caring for Mike in his final days.
A private graveside service will be held at Sunset Hill Cemetery and a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, has been entrusted with care.
