Mary Tanya Clark Eger, 88, wife of the late George Jefferson Eger, passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on Thursday July 4, 2024. It is fitting that her independent personality and unbridled spirit would fight and endure, selecting to finally rest on Independence Day.

Tanya was born and grew up on a lovely farm plot in the rural, quaint community of Dale. She married George Eger in 1956, and they were married for 53 years. Tanya graduated with an education degree from Northern Illinois University and dedicated her life to educating young minds and serving as a genuine role model while she taught second grade for most of her career, fulfilling the dream she always had of being a teacher. After moving to Texas in 1990, Tanya fulfilled another dream of living on the lake while fishing and exploring the local community with George and her grandchildren. After George’s passing, Tanya moved back to Dale to help her sister care for her ailing husband and became surrounded by doting nieces and nephews.

Surviving are three children, Sandra Eger Kelley (Tom), Ron Eger and Jack Eger (Jan); ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, John Clark; and a sister, Sandra Clark.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Eger; a sister, Patricia Crews; and a brother, Richard “Dick” Clark.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Aviva Senior Living, Staunton, VA for their love and tender care of Tanya over the past two years.

A funeral mass and burial will be announced later.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Dale.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of her arrangements.
