In the early morning hours of July 3rd 2023, Tell City Police Sergeant Heather Glenn was shot and killed in the line of duty while responding to a report of domestic abuse. During the incident, a fellow Tell City Police Officer, as well as an officer from the Cannelton Police Department, returned fire, killing the suspect. The incident itself remains under investigation by Indiana State Police.

Since midday Monday, Sgt. Glenn’s police vehicle has been parked on the corner of Tell City Hall. On Monday evening, a candlelight vigil was held. On Tuesday, TCPD and surrounding agencies escorted Sgt. Glenn from the Perry County Coroner’s Office to Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home, while community members lined the streets to pay their respects. On Wednesday night, The Perry County FOP Lodge 137 sold memorial stickers to benefit the 1st Annual Heather Glenn Shop with a Cop event. Many community members and businesses have created items such as t-shirts and stickers to raise money in her memory.

Visitation for Sergeant Glenn will be held on Sunday, July 9th 2023 from 2pm to 7pm at the Tell City High School auxiliary gym. The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 10th 2023 beginning at 10am at Tell City High School, with a procession to Greenwood cemetery. The Glenn family has requested that only family members and members of the law enforcement profession attend the gravesite services.

Details of the procession route will be made public prior to Monday’s service, which will allow members of the public the opportunity to pay respect in lieu of, or in addition to the visitation and service. A funeral service of this magnitude will encompass several honors, including a final 10-42 radio broadcast (signing off duty for the final time).
