Thomas G. Newton, age 89, of Jasper, passed away at 4:20 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.
Tom was born in Lamar, on February 13, 1933, to Thomas J. and Sadie (Conner) Newton. He married Elizabeth “Betty” Lents on February 6, 1953.
A 1951 graduate of Chrisney High School, he was a United States Army Veteran.
Tom retired from Alcoa Aluminum where he had worked as an operator for 32 years.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 147.
He enjoyed hunting, riding his motorcycle, boating and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Newton, Jasper; two children, Thomas C. (Sheila) Newton, Tell City and April (Kerry) Blessinger, Huntingburg; seven grandchildren, Tiffany, Danielle, Alicia, Job, Wade, Evan and Jamie; two great-grandchildren, Marley and Kaya; and one sister, Buelah Fischer-Kinney, Jasper.
Preceding him in death were two children, Vienna Buchanan and Carol Yearby; two sisters, Helen Kline and Edith Egg; and two brothers, William “Bill” and Raymond “Gene” Newton.
A funeral service for Thomas G. Newton will be held at 11 a.m. EST on Thursday, December 15, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, with burial in Garden of Memory Cemetery in Gentryville. Rev. Donald Ackerman will officiate. American Legion Post No. 147 will conduct military rites at the funeral home at the conclusion of the service.
A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. EST until the 11 a.m. EST service time at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper.
