Troy C. Burden, 99, of Newburgh, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021, at Woodmont Health Campus in Boonville.
He was born in Morgantown, Kentucky, on January 3, 1922, to the late Gable Morgan Burden and Delie Ann (Daugherty) Burden.
He was a charter member of Free Zion General Baptist Church and a deacon for 78 years.
He served honorably as a Sergeant in the Pacific Theatre during World War II for the Army Air Corps.
He was a Master Plumber and a member of UA Local 136 Plumbers and Steamfitters.
A most loving husband and father, he tirelessly provided for his family. He also extended that generosity to anyone he could help, in his quiet, gentle and selfless way.
He is survived by his sons, Larry Ray Burden (Cathy) (Alex Arwood, son) of Evansville and Keith E. Burden (Edward Hurley) of Newburgh; his grandson, Troy Matthew Burden; his great-grandchildren, Devon Hughes, Trey Matthew Burden and Bradley Burden; his brother, Rev. Chalmer Burden (Loveda); and several nieces and nephews, including one special niece, Roberta Pflug, and her son, James Pflug, Jr., who cared for both Troy and his beloved wife, Joyce, during their final years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce M. Burden, who passed away in 2019; his son, Kenneth Wayne Burden; and his siblings, Charlie Burden, Clifton Burden, Lois Lindsey, Eirdis Burden and Agnes Henson.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, May 27, at Free Zion General Baptist Church, 1153 N CR 275 W., Rockport, with Pastor Bob Carr, Pastor Chalmer Burden, and Pastor Josh Dimmett officiating. Burial will follow in Hackleman Cemetery.
Visitation is from 12 p.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the church.
