Wanda L. Rasor, 88, Rockport

Wanda Lee Rasor, 88, of Rockport, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2021, at Linda E. White Hospice House of Evansville.

She was born on May 22, 1932 in Spencer County, to the late Ralph and Katherine Eileen Rasor.

She received her BA and BS from Indiana State University in 1954 and her Master’s Degree from Indiana University.

She began her teaching career in Flora, Illinois for several years and taught at Evansville Central before returning to Rockport, where she taught at South Spencer School Corporation for 30 years. During her career she taught Biology Science, Health and Physical Education. She was also the High School Guidance Counselor, Leader of GAA- Girls Athletic Association, Cheerleader Sponsor and Student Council Sponsor. She also worked the Drug Prevention Program “Snowball”, and operated the concession stand for many years with her dear friend and co-worker, Mr. Jerry Arteberry.

Wanda was a volunteer with the Spencer County EMS.  She was a member of Rockport Order of the Eastern Star Garnet Chapter No. 146, Daughters of the American Revolution, Spencer County Historical Society, Indiana Retired Teachers Association and was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

Wanda loved to travel and loved people, never meeting a stranger. She loved athletics and marching band. You would always see her on the sidelines or in the bleachers cheering on our local youth, especially her great-nephews and great-niece. She loved Purdue Basketball. She loved horse races from a young age especially watching them run at Keeneland Park.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Eileen Rasor and her brother, James Ivan Rasor.

Wanda is survived by her brother, Michael Rasor; sister-in-law, Ann Rasor; nephew, James Ivan Rasor II (Tammy); great-nephew, Tyler Rasor; nephew, Eric Rasor (Krista); great-nephew, Alston Rasor; great-niece, Ashton Rasor; many cousins who have been so very special throughout her life, many friends and students.

The family would like to thank Dr. Eric Steed Jackson and Nurse Practitioner Jessica MacLeod for the exceptional and loving care.

Services are 3 p.m. Monday, February 8, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, with Jim Ahl officiating. Burial will follow in Hackleman Cemetery.

Visitation is from 12 until 3 p.m. Monday, February 8, at the funeral home.
