Wandel “Shorty” Cron, 89, of Rockport, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022, at his home.

Wandel was born on November 23, 1932 in the backwater of the Ohio River in Eureka, to the late Samuel and Hester (Small) Cron.

Wandel was a 1950 graduate of Luce Township High School. He married Norma in 1952 and was drafted into the United States Air Force during the Korean War, serving until 1962. During his time in the Air Force he and Norma had three children in Topeka, Kansas, England, and Peru, Indiana. The family moved to Missouri and had two more children while working for Chrysler.

Wandel was a member of Rockport American Legion Post 254. He was a life-long farmer raising tobacco and other crops and worked with the Carpenters Union from 1971 until his retirement in 1992. After his retirement he and his wife enjoyed vacationing.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Norma W. Cron; daughter, Lisa Walton Cron; and siblings, Frank, Tom, Marjorie, Lucille and Sue.

Wandel is survived by his children, Greg Cron (Kim), Tranace DeWeese, Doug Cron and Tonya Ebelhar; mother of three grandchildren, Krinda Wetzel; father of two grandchildren, Dwayne Ebelhar; grandchildren, Tia, Kameron, Kerrik, Corey, Kayla, Heather, Shane, Melissa, Brittany, Becky, Jodi, Travis, and Charlie; great-grandchildren, Lexi, Emmie, Riley, Kierstin, Khristian, Damian, Angel, Kyrah, Zoey, Trey, Peyton, Stephen, Caleb, Blaine, Brayden, Bailey, Sawyer, Hudson, Kadance, Kallie, Kaje and Whitlee; great-great-grandchildren, Charleigh Tayte, Ryker Bradley, and Bella; sisters, Cherri and Terri.

Services were held Monday, April 18, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, with Pastor Carl Jones officiating. Burial followed in James Parker Cemetery in Hatfield.
