Owner and President of Family Time Entertainment “Magic” Don Miller paid a visit to both branches of the Lincoln Heritage Public Library last Tuesday. Miller has been in charge of the company and hosting events since 1974, making it his primary profession in 1993 and averaging more than 225 shows per year.
“Pretty soon I’m going to get it right,” he joked.
Last week’s show involved plenty of audience engagement, and some relief from the summer sun as well. The Water Show demonstrated the fluid dynamics of water, basic elements of the rain cycle as well as how it feels to get suddenly caught in a rainstorm.
Practically every magic trick involved someone getting wet, usually one of the eager kids in the audience, but occasionally Magic Don himself, or one of the unlucky parents seated farther afield. Shooting a stream of water through a small hoop showed the cohesion of water in motion, even when Magic Don “accidentally” missed and sent the stream into the crowd, or his assistants. Kids also got to test the durability of water balloons, learning how best to handle them, or release their contents.
In the end, both events last week delivered pretty much exactly what was promised.
“We learn a lot about water,” said Magic Don. “And we get soaking wet.”
Both branches of the Lincoln Heritage Public Library, as well as its neighbors to the south, have a great deal of activities planned for the rest of the summer months. Check the libraries’ social media pages and websites for regular updates on activities and other programs to keep learning fun during summer vacation.
