William Claude “Zelmo” Abshier, 71, of Rockport, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Owensboro, Kentucky.
Bill was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on August 30, 1951, to the late Raleigh and Thelma (Young) Abshier.
Bill had been a groundskeeper at Christmas Lake Country Club in Santa Claus, Lakewood Country Club in Rockport, and later at Owensboro Country Club.
Zelmo was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan… during the good years and the (many) bad years. He loved music and going to concerts with his family and friends before he got “too old” for it. He was also a talented and self-taught painter and woodworker.
After retirement, he was happy and content to spend time with his wife, Cindy, his children, and grandchildren, and his “cat-children.” His quiet and steady presence, integrity, and light will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his siblings, Jim Abshier, Darlene “Skip” Schwoeppe and Jean Vessels.
Bill is survived by his wife, Cindy Kincaid, Laura and Hannah; his sons, Jeremy Abshier and his wife, Kate and Ryan Abshier and his wife, Melissa; his grandchildren, Axel, Riley and Natalie; his siblings, Sam Abshier and Jeaniece Scheesseele.
There will be no services. Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport has been entrusted with care.
