Communities in Senate District 48 will receive more than $3.2 million to improve roads and bridges through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program (CCMG), said State Sen. Mark Messmer (R-Jasper). The towns of Chrisney, Gentryville and Santa Claus are among those receiving moneys from the grant.

The CCMG was established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2016, and aims to advance community infrastructure projects, strengthen local transportation networks and improve Indiana’s roads and bridges. Since it was put into place, the program has awarded nearly $500 million in state matching funds for local construction projects.

In Senate District 48, three counties and nine municipalities received grants. The town of Chrisney received $66,273.67, Gentryville received $84,393 and Santa Claus received $131,070.

Other local grant recipients include Boonville, $561,020.13; Huntingburg, $134,899.50; Knox County, $384,900; Patoka, $69,349.50; Petersburg, $197,287.87; Pike County, $434,356.74; Princeton, $270,787.68; Vincennes, $438,362.50; and Warrick County, $506,774.03.

“The CCMG ensures area infrastructure projects are not left neglected,” Messmer said. “This program provides the funding to take care of our roads and bridges, allowing local leaders to allocate the money where they see fit.”

Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1 million when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations fewer than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations fewer than 10,000 receive a 75%/25% match, while counties with populations of at least 50,000 and cities and towns with populations of at least 10,000 receive a 50%/50% match.
