WEST LAFAYETTE — The Heritage Hills FFA Crop Scouting Team took home first place at the annual Purdue University Crop Scouting Contest held at the Agronomy Center for Research and Education (ACRE). This victory marks the sixth state title overall for Heritage Hills and their third consecutive championship win.
The rigorous summer-long competition tests students’ intensive knowledge of the agronomy career field. Throughout the day, team members rotated through nine grueling stations covering critical agricultural disciplines. The challenge areas included Nutrient Management, Pest Management, Corn and Soybean Growth and Development, Sprayer Calibration, and Weed Identification and Management.
The winning team is comprised of talented student competitors Jackson Smith, Henry Kemper, and Megan Steinmetz. Their mastery of crop development throughout the growing season secured the top spot against elite teams from across the state.
The team advances to the national competition on September 12th to be held at the Agronomy research center at the University of Illinois in Champaign.
