Roy Gene Allen, 84, of Santa Claus, was born on October 13, 1936, to Clifford and Marie Allen in Riverdale, Illinois.

Gene passed from his life on earth on July 28, 2021.

Gene possessed many good qualities, one of which was a special sense of humor. Always ready for a good laugh and easily enticed into mischief, Gene required a certain amount of adult supervision. For the last 48 plus years, that was provided by his devoted wife, Myra.

Gene was a loving father to his son, Cliff and daughter, Karen, who were with him during his final hours. He talked with them, often letting them know his love for them.

A grandfather of five and a great-grandfather of seven, he relished talking about them to friends. His childhood love was baseball and he and his brother, Chuck, whiled away the summer months of their youth playing the game. They did take time out on occasion to get into the whimsical trouble accorded boys of that age. Window breaking was a skill they equally possessed.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles.

The family is profoundly grateful to all those who brought Gene happiness through the years. Your kindness and thoughtfulness have been a blessing. There are no words to express our gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Jasper Memorial Hospital for the care they gave to Gene. Their professional and personal attention to Gene is greatly appreciated.
