Jane Hyde Hodges, 97, St. Louis

Jane Hodges passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2021, in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 97. 

She was born on November 29, 1923, to James R. and Marion Griswold Hyde in Cambridge, Massachusetts. As a child, she lived in Detroit, Michigan, Richmond and Indianapolis where she graduated from Shortridge High School in 1941. She married Rex Hodges in 1946 and worked at various jobs as he completed his degree at Indiana University School of Dentistry. They resided in Indianapolis until 1963 when they moved their family and dental practice to Rockport.

Jane was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Friends of Lincoln Pioneer Village for her many years in Rockport. In 2014, she relocated to St. Louis, Missouri and lived independently at the Friendship Village Senior Living facility. She lived there for seven years and was very happy and active there. She interviewed all the new people that moved into the Village and published the interviews in the Friendship Village paper so that everyone could get to know them. Everyone enjoyed her interviews and her writing. She also wrote many stories about her life which is a true blessing to her family. Throughout her life Jane loved to play bridge, paint and was an avid reader. She loved to travel and went on many adventures with her family. She had many friends both in Rockport and in St. Louis. She will be missed by many.

She is survived by her four children, David Hodges (Debbie) of Fort Wayne, Carol Hudson of Evansville, Mindy Jeffries (Ken) of Clarkson Valley, Missouri, and Barbi Karl (Tom) of Chesterfield, Missouri; 12 grandchildren, Amee Augenstein (Michael) of Indianapolis, Beth Hodges of Fort Wayne, Kate Rawdon (Eric) and Sarah Gilliam (Chris) both of Evansville, John Hudson (Amanda) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Garett Jeffries (Shaylee) of St. Louis, Missouri, Jill Tanner (Craig) of Rolla, Missouri, Rex Jeffries of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Abby Jeffries of St. Louis, Missouri , and Eric Berrong (Carrie), Phillip Berrong and Laura Berrong. all of St. Louis, Missouri; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Rex Hodges, in 1997, and her sister, Barbara Robertson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 14, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home, 527 Main Street in Rockport, with Pastor Eric Rawdon officiating. A private burial service will be held after the service at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Richland. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the service time at 11 at the funeral home.
