Mary Jane Vogel Heller, 82, of Evansville, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at The Timbers in Jasper, with her stepson, Charlie and his wife, Judy, by her side.
Janie was born on August 17, 1940, in Milford, Nebraska, to the late Albert and Adelaide (Flatemersch) Vogel.
While still a baby, she moved to Rockport with her family. She graduated from Rockport High School in 1958. Her first job was working at the Rockport Democrat newspaper. Later, she moved to Evansville and worked for Universal Furniture as their CFO.
On November 22, 1992, she married Leroy Heller. They celebrated 29 years of wedded bliss until his passing on April 8, 2022. Together, they created their own business of selling a variety of Amish-made food items at several locations in Southern Indiana and Western Kentucky. Janie loved traveling, especially with her best travel buddy, Leroy, and many of their Amish friends. She had visited 47 of the continental United States.
Janie is survived by her stepchildren, Charlie (Judy) Heller, Kevin (Carrie) Heller, Leanne (Kevin) Purdy and Susie (Les) Graber; 15 step-grandchildren; and her nieces and nephew, Peggy (Randy) Loftus, Bobbie (Bill) Wood, Kathy (Wes) Tindal, Jeff (Karen) Vogel, Jenny (Kyle) Wilkerson, and Billie Sue Vogel.
In addition to her parents and husband, Leroy, Janie was preceded in death by her brothers Bob, Bill, Larry and Dean Vogel, and her sister, Bettye Sanders.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. CDT on Sunday, October 23, at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ Cemetery in Lamar.
Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport has been entrusted with care.
