Cleon Michael Hurm, 74, was born May 8, 1950 at the home of his mother Cecelia Hurm and father, Bernard E. Hurm in Chrisney. He passed away Monday, April 21, 2025 surrounded by family at Deaconess Hospital. Cleon was the fourth child of six, his siblings, Bernard Jr., Betty Ann (Gross), Clyde, Roger and Carolyn (Thorpe) also grew up in this “salt of the earth” home full of faith, family and farm.

Cleon was a hardworking farmer, skilled diesel mechanic, and devoted father. Known for his infectious personality and sense of humor, Cleon had an unwavering dedication to those he cared for. Whether friends or family, he touched the lives of many with his generosity and hard work.

Born with a passion for the land, Cleon spent his days nurturing crops and tending to the farm, embodying the spirit of a true farmer. His expertise as a diesel mechanic was invaluable to the operation, and he was always ready to lend a hand, often going above and beyond to help those he loved and respected.

Family was the cornerstone of Cleon’s life. He found joy in the simple things and cherished moments spent with his large, multi-generational family. His high expectations and strong work ethic were balanced by his deep love and commitment to those around him.

A man of varied interests, Cleon had a fondness for John Deere tractors, Prime Country music, Motown classics, Westerns, and his faith in God. He also enjoyed marathon cooks with his friends, where tall tales and the Boston butts were cooked low and slow. His presence was a constant source of support and strength, and his legacy of kindness and hard work will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Those left to celebrate his life are his wife, Inez; two devoted daughters, Beth Hurm Lauer, her husband Chad, and Sherri Hurm, all of Rockport; his bonus children, Mindy Melton (Brian) of Tell City, Jennifer Underhill, Jasper and Brad Lillpop (Katie), Tell City. Cleon would absolutely light up when around all of his grands, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: McKenzie Hatchett (Kalob), Jonathyn Hatchett (Ethan), Sydney Hatchett and Cooper Hurm, along with Maddie Underhill, Ross Melton, Grace Irwin, Broc Lillpop and Cohen Lillpop. Great-grandchildren Kingston and Kamdyn Salkill, Sawyer Hatchett, Cleo “Cleaty Girl” Collins and the youngest, Jovi, will carry forward his legacy.

Though he is no longer with us, Cleon’s spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love and gratitude.
