Dixie Lee Miller, 89, of Rockport, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Brickyard Healthcare / The Woodlands in Newburgh.
Dixie was born December 21, 1936, to Riley Walter and Helen (Aders) Chapman in Hatfield.
Dixie worked and retired after 20 plus years of service from the Social Security Administration where she did clerical work.
Dixie was an avid reader and loved a good book, she would return from her trips to the local library with a bag full to read. She also had a great love of music and was a piano player. Her love of music also moved her onto the dance floor where she and her husband Jake loved to dance together. In her early years she enjoyed spending time at the American Legion Rockport Post No. 254 where she was a lifelong member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Dixie loved going out to eat, and spending time with her family and friends. She also loved watching Indiana University Basketball games.
Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jake Howard Miller, and son Jon Michael Miller.
She is survived by her sons Daniel Miller (Susan) and Scott Miller (Lea); her grandchildren Michael Miller, T.J.Miller, Austin Miller (Natalie), Andrew Miller (Bethann) and Tiffiny Miller; her great-grandchildren Jake, Hannah, Victoria, Sophia, Laken, Autumn and Dylan; her sister Sandra Bee; brothers Darrell Walter, Jerrell Walter, Riley Walter and Pete Walter, along with many other nieces, nephews, extended friends and family.
Services for Dixie were held at Boultinghouse Funeral Home 527 Main Street Rockport, IN. 47635, Tuesday September 22, with pastor Tim Coomer officiating. Burial followed at Shiloh Cemetery, Patronville.
