Dale Edward Carter, 49, of Evanston, formerly of Olney, IL, died Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Evansville.
He was born March 5, 1970, to Caryol and Lewis Carter. He graduated from Clay City High School in 1988 and studied telecommunications at Wabash Valley College and Lake Land College. In the early 1990s, he served in the U.S. Air Force, including a tour in Kuwait during Operation Desert Storm. His son Zachary was born in 1992, and he was always the most important person in Dale’s life.
Starting in 1998, he worked as a technician at PSC in St. Meinrad, where he was a valued team member and dear friend to his work family.
Above all things, he was an active and outgoing man. He spent as much time as possible outdoors and was an avid hunter. He also loved to fish, ride ATVs, and tend his garden. He spent much of his free time visiting family and spending time with his friends, and he especially enjoyed any time spent playing with his nieces and nephews. He was also a Christian and a man of faith. In 2019, he met Edwina Varnell, who became his girlfriend and was a significant part of his life.
To his many friends and family members, he was a man of loyalty and integrity, someone who could always be counted on to help out whenever he was needed. He was also quick with a smile and a laugh, making friends everywhere he went with his easygoing personality and his sense of humor. He was a loving father and a beloved brother and son. The world is a little less bright without him in it, and he will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
Survivors include his son, Zachary Carter of Saint Petersburg, FL; father, Lewis Carter of West Salem, IL; girlfriend, Edwina Varnell of Louisville, KY; brothers, Troy Carter of Schaumburg, IL, John (Ann) Carter of Pana, IL, and Jason (Colette) Carter of Shorewood, IL; sisters, Brenda Carter of Olney, IL, Kelly Klingler of Anna, IL, Amanda Carter of Joliet, IL, and Mary Lou (Ryan) Morris of Clay City, IL; stepbrother, Tony (Susan) Klingler, of Olney, IL; grandmother, Alice Gill of Clay City, IL; aunt, Nova Quick of Olney, IL; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, grandmother, grandfather, and several aunts and uncles.
A memorial service for Dale Carter will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 9, at the Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney, IL, with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Full military rites will be performed at the funeral home.
