Dennis Ray Buchanan, 67, of Hatfield, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at Select Hospital in Evansville. He was surrounded by his family, including his nephew, Bennie Small and wife, Libby, who traveled from the State of Washington to spend time with him. His beloved dog Emrie was also by his side when he passed.
He was born November 7, 1955 to Jess Buchanan and Ruth (Michael) Buchanan.
Dennis was overwhelmed with joy to have so many family members and friends visit and send cards while in the hospital. It made him realize he was loved by so many people and that he made such a positive impact on people’s lives.
Dennis had been the face of BJ’s Pizza from its beginning in 1991. He had a heart dedicated to helping others. That heart also led him to work for Wendell Foster Home where he cared for disabled adults.
Dennis loved spending time with family and friends, and showed he cared by making his famous cakes for them. He was an avid antique collector, enjoyed canoing, frog gigging, mushroom hunting and trail riding/hiking with his friend.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father, mother and his brothers, Jimmie, Tommy and Leon.
He is survived by his brother, James Buchanan of Rockport and sisters, Carolyn (Charles) Ellis of Boonville and Sandra Bumpus of Rockport, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews.
Dennis wanted to continue making a difference even after his passing and donated his body to I.U Medical Center.
There will be a celebration of Life for Dennis Buchanan on October 15, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Community Center in Rockport City Park.
