OWI arrest
Jasper Police Department received a 911 call at 2:20 a.m. Sunday, August 16, in reference to a male subject honking his horn and revving his engine repeatedly. Upon arriving at the scene, officers identified the subject as 43-year-old Jamey Smock of Dale. Further investigation determined Smock had driven from JR’s Bar to the parking lot on 14th Street where he had been located. Smock allegedly failed a field sobriety test and refused to submit to a chemical test. A preliminary breath test determined his blood alcohol content to be 0.214. Smock was arrested and lodged in the Dubois County Security Center on charges of operating while intoxicated (class A misdemeanor), OWI refusal (class A infraction), and public intoxication (class B misdemeanor).
Walmart theft
At 7:04 p.m. Friday night, August 14, Jasper Police Department was contacted by the Asset Protection Department at Jasper Walmart in reference to a female shoplifter. After further investigation, officers determined that 25-year-old Miranda Shoultz of Jasper had taken multiple items without rendering payment for them. Shoultz was charged with theft.
Huntingburg Police
Rear-ended at railroad crossing
Rebecca Gardner, 47, of Lincoln City, was stopped at the railroad crossing on Main and 8th streets in Huntingburg, when her 2019 Honda was struck from behind by a 2008 Toyota driven by 38-year-old Milagro Reyes of Huntingburg. During the crash investigation officers determined Milagro had never received a driver’s license and that he was driving while suspended with a prior conviction. Milagro was charged for the offenses, as well as for operating a vehicle without financial responsibility. Neither he nor Gardner were injured in the August 14, 6:41 p.m. collision, and damage to both vehicles was estimated to be under $1,000.
