Two runs on Oct. 5
Ferdinand Fire Department received a call at 3:03 p.m. last Monday, October 5, to the Comfort Inn on Scenic Hills Court, to a general fire alarm. Upon arriving, firefighters found that maintenance personnel were fixing an A/C unit and had blown dust into the air, which caused the smoke alarm to activate. Firefighters reset the system to normal. Two trucks and six personnel were on scene for approximately 15 minutes.
Later that night, at 9:52 p.m., the fire department was called to Masterbrand on 3rd Street, to the report of a general fire alarm. Upon arriving, personnel found that there was a glitch in the system and no fire. The system was then reset. Four trucks and 12 personnel were on scene for approximately 10 minutes. Ferdinand Police assisted.
Jasper Police
OWI arrest
An officer with the Jasper Police Department was called to McDonald’s at 11:33 p.m. Sunday night, October 11, in reference to a possible intoxicated driver. While en route, the officer passed the suspect’s 2000 Honda Civic, which was left of center and failing to use a turn signal. Police conducted a field sobriety test on the driver, identified as 31-year-old William A. Artiga of Jasper, and determined he was impaired. After testing 0.256 on a preliminary breath test, Artiga was transported to Memorial Hospital, where a chemical blood test was administered and revealed his blood alcohol content to be 0.285. Artiga was charged with Operating While Intoxicated (class C misdemeanor), Operating While Intoxicated with an ACE of 0.15 or more (class A misdemeanor), and an open alcoholic beverage container citation.
