Hallie Jean Ayer, 99, of Chrisney, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023, at The Waters of Rockport.
Jean was born in Spencer County on October 27, 1923, to the late Chester M. and Pansy (Vance) Shrode.
Jean was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, mowing, reading and spending time with family. A member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church, she was a basketball fan and enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Belleville “Eugene” Ayer, who passed away in 1992; her sons, Larry, Gary and Roger Ayer; a grandson and a great-granddaughter; her brothers, Chester A. and Thomas Shrode; and her son-in-law, Bill Weigel.
Jean is survived by her children, Marlene Hurley and her husband, Dennis; David Ayer and his wife, Susan; and Jeanette Theising and her husband, Mark; 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; her sister Mary Ann Horn and her husband, Jake; her daughters-in-law, Barbara Ayer and Marilyn Ayer-Jansing.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday, February 25, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport with Pastor Carl Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chrisney.
Visitation is 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. service time Saturday, February 25, at the funeral home.
