John Peter Ficker, 76, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at Primrose Retirement Community, Newburgh.
He was born November 14, 1945, in Spencer County, the son of Pete and Claudina (Evrard) Ficker.
John graduated from Chrisney High School, Class of 1964. Following graduation, he served in the Army National Guard for six years. John married Judy Painter, April 28, 1967. John was a lifelong farmer, who enjoyed refurbishing antique tractors. He worked in the coal industry for many years, retiring from AEP in 2009.
John was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church, Chrisney, for many years.
John is remembered for teaching his children how to care for God’s blessings, such as land, animals, crops and family. He raised his children in the Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edward; a sister, Rita Brinksneader; and a cousin, Paul Evrard.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Judy Ficker of Chrisney; son, Greg of Rockport; daughter, Tammy Perkins (Jimmy); son, John (Kim), and son, Brad (Jacqueline) all of Chrisney; 12 grandchildren, Jordan, Meggan, Katlyn and Alyson Ficker, Lauren Parker, Nickolas Perkins, Madeline Nelson, Kolin and Konner Ficker, Bryson, Braxley and Bryder Ficker; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Powers and her husband, Dallas; one brother-in-law, Chuck Painter; three nieces; five great-nieces and -nephews and many cousins.
Services are 1 p.m. Monday, October 17, at St. Martin Catholic Church, 52 S Church St., Chrisney, with Father Ron Kreilein officiating. Burial will follow at St. Martin I Cemetery in Centerville.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Martin Catholic Church or St. Martin I Cemetery.
