Larry Ray Bumpus, 76, of Rockport, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.
Larry was born January 25, 1947, in Dixon, KY, to Rufus Chester and Eunie Lorene (Clark) Bumpus. He graduated from Webster County High School and attended college in Victoria, TX, where he played basketball on a scholarship. Larry was employed at Alcoa for 37 years and retired in 2007. He was a member of Local 104 Steelworkers Union. Larry loved to fish and hunt and was an avid Kentucky basketball fan. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, where he coached from the sidelines. Larry was a member of Living Word Christian Church.
Larry is survived by his wife, Sandra (Buchanan) Bumpus; daughter, Kimberly Wilson (Matthew); son, Kelly Bumpus; grandchildren, Kelsie Williams (Bryce), Matthew Wilson Jr. and Kate Wilson; one great-grandchild, Brexen Williams; sister, Mildred Jean Sigler; sisters-in-law, Ruth Ann Bumpus and Shirley Bumpus; stepsons, Bennie (Elizabeth) Small, Mike (Angela) Epperson and Tommy (Kelly) Epperson; nine step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Betty June Chandler and Peggy Ann Shoulders; and brothers, James Carrol Bumpus, Denny Lee Bumpus and John William Bumpus.
A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, April 15, at Living Word Christian Church in Newburgh, with Pastor Tommy Epperson officiating. Burial followed in James Parker Cemetery in Hatfield.
