North Spencer School Corporation has set the dates for kindergarten round-up and preschool and daycare enrollment in the elementary schools from February 16-19. To be eligible to enter kindergarten in the fall, a child must be five (5) years of age on or before August 1, 2021. Children must be three (3) years of age by August 1, 2021 to enroll in the Preschool and Daycare Program.
Due to COVID-19 precautions and to provide added flexibility, there will not be any in-person events in the evenings for round-up. Parents may visit or contact their child’s school the week of February 16-19. Parents must wear a mask when visiting the school and will only be allowed in the office area. If unable to visit or contact the school during school hours, emailing the principal or leaving a phone message with the school are options.
Parents will need to bring their child’s birth certificate, shot record and social security number to the school. Schools are open from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. to drop off and fill out paperwork. There is also an option to scan and email those items to the school principal or mail to the school address. North Spencer’s enrollment paperwork can be done online. Call the school to talk about other options if these do not work.
Parents who would like to request that their child attend kindergarten in a school other than their school of residence should contact either school and fill out the appropriate transfer request. Transfer requests will be approved or denied based upon final enrollment numbers prior to June 1, 2021. Internal transfers to Lincoln Trail will not be accepted at this time due to enrollment.
Parents enrolling a child in the Preschool and Daycare Program should enroll at their school of residence. Preschoolers from outside the North Spencer School District are welcome to enroll and should register at the site where they wish their child to attend. Principals can be contacted to answer questions regarding the Preschool and Daycare Program. Spots for preschool are limited, so parents should be sure to sign up during the week of Feb. 16-19.
Parents with children currently enrolled in the North Spencer Preschool Program, and who will continue in the program during the 2021-22 school year, do not need to contact the school during the week of Feb. 16-19; the school will send a sheet home asking those parents if they plan for their child to attend the following year. That sheet should be filled out and returned with the student to reserve his or her spot for the 2021-22 school year.
Necessary kindergarten paperwork and information will be sent home in the weekly preschool folder for parents whose children will be completing the North Spencer Preschool Program and will be entering Kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year.
