Sister and brother Diane Unfried and George Meece welcomed visitors to the cabin of their great-great-great- grandparents, Josiah and Elizabeth Crawford, who were friends of the Lincoln family in the early 1800s.

Thomas Lincoln built a cabinet for the Crawfords.

His son, Abraham, borrowed the book “Weems’ Life of Washington” from Josiah and it got soaked with rain when Abe left it in a chink in the cabin wall overnight . Abe paid for the damage by pulling fodder on his farm, working for three days to compensate for the damage.

The Crawford cabin, along with all the other historic cabins in Lincoln Pioneer Village in Rockport City Park, was decorated for the Christmas season for Treemendous Christmas in the Village, an annual holiday celebration reminding visitors of the 16th president’s 14 years in Indiana.
