Ralph J. Spayd, 91, of Jasper, passed away at 9:35 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, in The Timbers of Jasper, in Jasper.
Ralph was born in Mariah Hill on August 3, 1929, to William and Theresa (Brenner) Spayd. He married Pearlena Rasche on August 31, 1957, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper.
He was a graduate of Dale High School. He then attended Ivy Tech College, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Engineering.
He was a United States Navy Veteran, serving during the Korean War.
As an electronic engineer, he worked for various companies throughout his lifetime.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and Jasper Outdoor Recreation. He and his wife were very active in Holy Family Parish, and he was a member of the church choir there and in all previous churches that he and his wife attended.
Ralph enjoyed reading, especially Westerns, and loved football. In his early days he played baseball for the Mariah Hill Reds. He and his wife also loved dancing.
Surviving are his wife, Pearl Spayd, Jasper; two boys, Stuart Spayd, Jasper and Andrew (Megan) Spayd, Jasper; one granddaughter, Jennifer (Justin) Lovett; two great-grandchildren, Korie and Logan Lovett; two sisters, Sr. Mary Carmel and Sr. Mary Carmen of the Sisters of St. Benedict, Ferdinand.
Preceding him in death was one sister, Geneva Weyer and one brother, Alfred Spayd.
A Private Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held at a later date in Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or to the Sisters of St. Benedict.
