Eugenia (Jean) Meyer, 89, of Mariah Hill, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 4, 2020.

Jean was born on March 17, 1931 to Veronica (Bockting) and Richard Wagner in Mariah Hill. She married Orville “Pete” Meyer at Mary Help of Christians Church in Mariah Hill on May 1, 1954. Pete preceded her in death on March 19, 2008.

Jean is survived by three sons, Alan Meyer of Gentryville, Bill (Linda) Meyer of Appleton, WI and Mark (Beth Bissell) Meyer of Dallas, TX; three daughters, Brenda Meyer of Dale, Maureen Hagedorn (Bob) of Santa Claus and Denise Meyer of Mariah Hill. She is also survived by two grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

She was the last remaining member of the Richard and Veronica Wagner family. Preceding her in death were her parents, Richard and Veronica Wagner, her husband Pete, her sisters, Julia Dilger, Betty Schneiders, Rita Jochim and Mary Wagner and her brothers Jerome, Louis, Leonard and Joseph Wagner.

Jean was a lifelong member of Mary Help of Christians (St. Francis of Assisi) parish. She was a member of the Ladies Sodality and quilted with these ladies for many years. She enjoyed being a member of the church choir and also did the bookkeeping for the Mariah Hill Parish for many years. She was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella (Ferdinand Chapter) and the Santa Claus American Legion Auxiliary.

Jean was the best friend and caretaker of her husband Pete for 54 years. She loved singing, crocheting, embroidery and quilting (piecing together and quilting many beautiful quilts for family and friends). She cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandkids, whether it was sporting events, holidays, birthdays or the Meyer family turtle soup parties. Jean also enjoyed putting together puzzles, doing crossword puzzles and always enjoyed a great game of Scrabble, Cribbage and Euchre.

A mass of Christian burial will be Monday, November 9, at 11 a.m. CST in Mary Help of Christian Church-St. Francis of Assisi Parish, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be  from 9-11 a.m. CST in the church prior to the service.  The family asks that everyone adhere to mask wearing and social distancing due to COVID-19.

The family would like to thank everyone at Scenic Hills at the Monastery for all they have done to care for Jean – especially Dr. Schaefer, Paula Jochim and the nursing staff. Online condolences may be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com.
