At a special meeting, Monday, October 7, the Santa Claus Town Council, according to due process, adopted Ordinance 2019-14, effectively dissolving the Parks and Recreations Department. The ordinance specifically repeals Chapter 1.50 of the Town’s Municipal Code and names the Town Council as the park authority.
“Since we’ve, in the last week, received resignations from all four park board members, we need to move forward on this,” said Council President Mike Johannes.
“I’ve been a proponent of having the Town Council take over the parks for some time,” commented Vice-President John Bowen. “The Town Council is taking on the responsibility to make that park the best park it can possibly be. I think we can do that more effectively if we were directly involved with it.”
The Santa Claus Town Council will meet again in regular session on Monday, October 14 at 5:30 p.m. CDT in Town Hall.
