Ran off road
William Hartwick, 66, of Evanston, was southbound on CR 1250 E near Grandview when he swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway and lost control of his vehicle, eventually driving off the road and into a ditch. Hartwick was not injured in the June 1, 12:05 p.m. accident, but damage to his 2001 Chevrolet 1500 was estimated between $2,500-5,000.
Three-vehicle collision
Jeremiah Yoder, 23, of Worthington, was northbound on SR 161 near Rockport when he failed to notice that the vehicle in front of him, driven by 57-year-old Dwayne Swanagan of Owensboro, had stopped to make a right turn onto Base Road. Yoder swerved into the opposite lane to avoid rear-ending Swanagan’s vehicle, causing a vehicle in the southbound lane, driven by 18-year-old Simon Hanson of Philpot, KY, to also swerve off the roadway in order to keep from being hit by Yoder’s vehicle. Yoder’s vehicle struck Swanagan’s, causing minimal damage. No one involved in the May 30, 4:33 p.m. incident was injured, and damages were estimated between $2,500-5,000.
Rear-end collision
A deputy with the Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on SR 66 in Rockport at 2:45 p.m. on May 27. According to 34-year-old George Poindexter of Owensboro, he was driving eastbound when the vehicle in front of him stopped suddenly; not having enough room to stop in time, Poindexter struck the vehicle from behind. Neither Poindexter nor the other driver, 20-year-old Shelby Burdin of Rockport, were injured, and total damage was estimated to be under $1,000.
Ran off road
Dylan Mathews, 22, of Owensboro, was southbound on CR 200 W near Rockport when he drove through flood water at an intersection, causing the vehicle he was driving to run off the west side of the roadway and through a ditch before becoming stuck in a field. According to police, Mathews was traveling at a higher rate of speed than the speed limit during a pursuit before the accident. Mathews was not injured in the May 26, 6:18 a.m. run-off, but damage to the vehicle and the landscaping was estimated between $1,000-2,500.
