Steve J. Winsett passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Steve was born on September 1, 1949, in Evansville, to Bobby J. and Violet Maudie (Walden) Winsett.
Steve spent 21 years as a welder at the Yankeetown Boat Dock, was a member of the UMWA, and held several offices within the union. Steve retired as an Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance agent in Spencer County after 18 years of service.
Steve was deeply devoted to his community, shown through his service to Big Brothers and Big Sisters, coaching local little league and flag football teams throughout the years, and his service to the county through his 16 years serving as a Spencer County Councilman.
Steve was a member of Bloomfield Wesley Chapel in Chrisney and a member of Rockport Lodge No. 112, serving in many roles and offices throughout his time in the Lodge. Steve also enjoyed coon hunting and was a member of the Warrick County Coon Hunters Club, serving as past president. Steve had a deep love of horses, which was only rivaled by his love for his family.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents.
Steve is survived by his sons, Nick (Claudia) Winsett of Boonville, Zach (Julie) Winsett of Newburgh and daughter, Stephanie Heeke of Newburgh; grandchildren Lukas, Beau and Claire Heeke, Sadie, Sawyer, Lyndsey and Lauryn Winsett; sisters, Pam (Jim) Hendrickson of Boonville and Debbie (Richard) Ellis of Newburgh; niece, Christa Hendrickson, and nephews Michael Downing and Andy Ellis.
A funeral service for Steve Winsett was held Thursday, February 13, with a Masonic Lodge service prior. Pastor Paul Giles officiated the service, and burial followed at Midway Cemetery, Midway.
The family especially would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice, Sara Vaal, Toni Winsett, and Donna Winsett for the love and care shown to Steve in his final days
