Rita Brockman, 90 of St. Meinrad, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at Northwood Good Samaritan Retirement Center in Jasper.
She was born April 1, 1931, in Tell City, to Henry and Catherine (Eberle) Strobel.
She married Levinus Brockman on November 27, 1952, in St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Tell City. He preceded her in death on January 9, 2006. Rita was a loving mother and homemaker.
Rita was a member of St. Meinrad and St. Ferdinand Catholic Churches, St. Meinrad Legion Auxiliary and was owner of Lincoln Heritage Antiques.
She is survived by four sons, Paul (Judy) Brockman and Terry (Sandy) Brockman, all of Ferdinand, Steve Brockman of New Albany and Fred (Jennifer) Brockman of Jasper; two daughters, Rita (John) Cherkis of Semmes, AL and Kathy (Joe) Schaefer of Bardstown, KY; daughters in-law, Michelle Brockman and Cindy Brockman of St. Meinrad; a brother, Paul Strobel of Tell City; a sister, Carol Dauby of Tell City; 16 grandchildren, Ryan, Darin and Grant Brockman, Matthew and Kara Cornett, Amy, Adam and Hannah Brockman, J.R, J.D. and Cassie Brockman, Karen Cherkis, Amanda Brockman and Brittany VanWinkle, Nathan and Audry Schaefer; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Mark Brockman; sisters, Dorothy Ferrando, Mary Rose Birchler, Ann Wirthwein and Frances O’Brian; and a brother, Henry Stobel.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 7, at 10 a.m. in St. Ferdinand Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, January 6 from 4-8 p.m. at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and 7-9:30 a.m. on Friday.
