Tom Litkenhus, 73, of Chrisney, passed away at his home on Sunday, October 29, 2023. He was born in Huntingburg, to his loving parents, Leo and Donna (Hunter) Litkenhus on March 18, 1950.

In 1973, he married Dianne Payne at St. Martin’s Catholic Church where they have remained life-long members. They became proud parents to Thad, Megan, and Lauren. Nothing made Tom happier than raising his family, and nothing made his family prouder than being his.

Tom was a career member of the International Union of Operating Engineers and spent many years serving as Business Agent of Local 181. He loved his work and the people he worked with. He took so much pride in his job that he never once complained about going to work. Tom retired from the Operating Engineers in 2017 after 40 years of service.

Tom had four grandchildren who were the light of his life. They could make him smile just by walking into the room and the way he looked at them was unparalleled. He found endless joy in watching them learn and in learning from them.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Charlie, Danny and David Litkenhus.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne and children Thad (Julie) Litkenhus, Megan (Jason) Thomas, and Lauren (Jeremy) Wargel, his grandchildren Lydia, Presley, Eliza and Jude; siblings Linda (Aaron) Mitchell, Carolyn (Bob) Ambs, Steve (Diane) Litkenhus and Bob (Kim) Litkenhus, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

Tom leaves a legacy of integrity, love, hard work, and a lifelong passion for learning. His passing has left an immense hole in the hearts of all who loved him.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 4, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Chrisney, with burial to follow at St. Martin’s Cemetery in Centerville.
