Jerry D. Renshaw, age 88, of Bloomington, and formerly of Spencer County, passed away peacefully Monday, November 25, 2024, at Brown County Health and Living Community in Nashville.
Jerry was born February 24, 1936, in Spencer County to Harmon and Olive (Terry) Renshaw.
Jerry was a devoted member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He attended church in Owensboro, Kentucky, and Newburgh. Most importantly, he cherished his relationship with Jesus Christ. Jerry attended Eureka and Richland City schools and the Utilities Engineering Institute in Chicago, graduating in 1958.
Jerry served his country in the Army as a medical specialist in Korea. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to his roots in farming and welding. He then dedicated thirty years to his career at George Koch Sons, Inc. before retiring.
Jerry’s passions were as varied as they were vibrant. He delighted in flying his beloved J3 Piper Cub, tending to his bees, operating his bulldozer, and working with tractors. He also loved gardening and farming. But perhaps most of all, Jerry cherished sharing tales and laughter with his friends, leaving behind a legacy of joy, love and adventure.
Jerry is survived by daughters, Sheila Jorgensen (Jim) of McDonald, TN, and Sherri Umphress of Bloomington; grandchildren, Brian Jorgensen, TN, Lilly Jorgensen, TN, Kelsey Umphress (Grant Teague), IN, Heidi Jorgensen, TN, Audrey Jorgensen Pichot (Roland), CO, Nathan Umphress, IN, and Aaron Jorgensen, TN, and great-grandchild Freyja Jean Teague, IN. He is also survived by his siblings, Audrey Schoonard of Newburgh, Delbert Renshaw of Evansville and Daryl Renshaw of Collegedale, TN; and cousin Steve Terry of Tell City, who was like a brother.
The family expresses deepest gratitude for the compassionate care provided to him by the Veterans Administration, Monroe Place, Brown County Health and Living Community and IU Health Hospice.
A service to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held at Boultinghouse Funeral Home 527 Main Street, Rockport, IN 47635 on Friday, December 6, with visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the service at 12 p.m. Central Time, with Pastor Jeremy Clark officiating. Burial will follow at James Parker Cemetery with military honors.
