Donald Lee Rebel, 89, formerly of Chrisney, died January 24, 2025, in Louisville, KY. He was born on December 17, 1935, to Ora and Esther Forler Rebel.
Don graduated from Chrisney High School, Lockyear College, earned a bachelor’s degree from Spring Arbor College and an Honorary Doctorate from Bristol University. He had a successful career in sales and marketing, specifically in institutions of higher learning including Lockyear College in Evansville and Indianapolis, Stautzenberger College in Toledo, OH, and Sullivan University in Louisville, KY. He was named an Honorary Kentucky Colonel for his contributions to society.
Don enjoyed photography, genealogy, history, IU basketball, and his annual trips to the Indy 500. He cherished his Spencer County roots and Chrisney community. He had a unique sense of humor, always quick with a joke. Don was a kindhearted man who shined a light on the good in others.
Don is survived by his wife of 29 years, Sandra; his former wife and mother of his children, Mildred Bruggenschmidt; daughters Donna Martin (Tim), Debbie Tiller (Dave), Darlene Reiners (John) and Danae Domian (Tom); grandchildren Tyson, Trent and Todd Martin, Dustin Detzer, Tommy and Kate Domian; great-grandchildren Teagan, Talen, Reagan, Jack, Lela, Sadie, Sopris and Faith Marie Martin; Sandra’s children Debbie Tubbs (Bill), Janice Thompson (BJ), Esther MaGoon, and Robert Russell; Sandra’s grandchildren Joe and Emily Tubbs, Nadine Gardner, Josh and Amber Russell, Brittney Corbin, and Sandra’s nine great-grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, Dane Detzer.
Visitation is Saturday, February 1, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. CST at Boulting- house Youngblood Chapel in Chrisney, followed by a Funeral Mass officiated by Fr. Chris Forler at 12:30 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Chrisney. Burial will follow in St. Martin’s cemetery.
