Gerald E. Jacob, 88, of Bretzville, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born March 18, 1937, in Dubois County, to Hilbert and Loretta (Ebenkamp) Jacob. He married Darlene R. Schmitt on May 6, 1961, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland.  

He was a veteran of the United States Navy and member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. Gerald was a farmer and retired from Whirlpool Corporation. He loved farming, engineering his own equipment repairs, playing cards, squirrel hunting, fishing, and spending time with his children and grandkids.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Darlene Jacob ,who passed away on April 18, 2023; and one brother, Eugene Jacob.

Gerald is survived by one son, Wayne (Barbara) Jacob of Bretzville; three daughters, Sherri (Denny) Rickelman of Fulda, Tina (Ken) Dieter of St. Meinrad and Tara (Bryan) Eckert of St. Anthony; four brothers, Donny, Kenny, Hilary and Stanley Jacob; two sisters, Marilyn Taylor and Laverne Oser; ten grandchildren, Camden Schaefer, Emily Jacob, Shaina (Rickelman) Arnold, Noah Rickelman, Amanda Jacob, Shantai (Rickelman) Cochenour, Brianna Eckert, Conrad Schaefer, Daniel Eckert, and Clay Eckert; and by four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Gerald Jacob will be held at 11 a.m. EDT, Saturday, July 19, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Rev. Biju Thomas will officiate the funeral Mass. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post No. 2366 Memorial Detail.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 8 until 10:45 a.m., Saturday morning, the day of the service.

Gerald’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff, nurses and doctors of Memorial Hospital and The Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center for their professionalism and genuine compassion in caring for their dad.
