St. Meinrad American Legion Post 366 will host a Dine and Dance on Saturday, November 23. The admission price of $15 includes a meal, drinks and the dance. The meal will be served at 5 p.m. Music will be provided by The Sweetwater Band. Reservations are required by calling 812-357-7834, 812-357-5121 or 812-357-5583.

The Evansville Philharmonic Youth Orchestras (EPYO and EPYO II) will present their fall concert this Saturday, November 23 at 7 p.m. on the Victory Theatre stage. EPYO II consists of Tri-State students in grades 6-8, and EPYO includes Tri-State students in grades 9-12. Local communities represented in the EPYO include Evansville, Newburgh, Jasper, Princeton, Ft. Branch, Tell City, and Owensboro, to name a few. The concert will begin with various selections from Bach, Copland, Schubert, Gliere, as well as the wonderfully tuneful and well-recognized “Light Cavalry Overture” by Franz von Suppe. EPYO will begin the second half of the concert with a picturesque program featuring famous classical music used in opera and film. The concert will finish with music from the film score “Lt. Kije” by Sergei Prokofiev. General admission is $10; tickets may be purchased by calling the Philharmonic Box Office at 812-425-5050 or ordering online at www.evansvillephilharmonic.org. The 6th Street doors open one hour prior to the concert.

The University of Evansville Theatre will present the play Lone Star Spirits on November 21, 22, 23 and 24 in the May Studio Theatre on campus. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. November 21-23 and 2 p.m. on November 24. At times hilarious and at times heartbreaking, this family drama is a poignant story about a small-town life, the haunting feeling one experiences by returning to their childhood hometown, and the spooky surprises life always seems to have in store. Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $9 for senior adults, students, and UE employees. Seating is limited, and tickets are available by calling 812-488-2031.

Church News

Dale Presbyterian Church’s third annual gospel sing will be held Thursday, November 21 in the church sanctuary. Special guests include Cheri Taylor, Wayne Mathies, St. Peter’s Quartet and Don Musselwhite. Sanctuary doors open to everyone at 6 p.m., following the meal at Community Table. Community Table will be serving its annual Thanksgiving dinner prior to the gospel sing, beginning at 5 p.m. in the Micah Center. All are welcome to attend both events. There is no charge for the meal or the music.

St. John’s United Church of Christ in Lamar will hold its annual Thanksgiving supper on Saturday, November 23, beginning at 4 p.m. Meals are $10 (free for children under 5) and include ham and turkey, St. John’s famous dressing, fall vegetables and salads, dessert bar, and drink. Dine-in or carry-out. The public is invited to attend.

St. Michael Church in Cannelton will hold a Turkey Bingo/Raffle on Sunday, November 24 at 2 p.m. at the Cannelton Community Center. Twenty frozen turkeys and five jackpots will be given away. Tickets are $2 for 25 games, and concessions (popcorn, candy, can drinks, burgers and hot dogs) will be available throughout the event. License No. 150650.

The annual Christmas Bazaar at St. John’s Lutheran Church, one-half mile west of New Boston, is scheduled for Saturday, December 7, from 6 a.m.–2 p.m. CST. Homemade candy, German potato salad, cheese balls, and dressing will be available, as well as baked goods, including springerles. There will also be quilts, blankets, and numerous other items. Bring own containers to purchase special soup sold by the gallon. Breakfast will be served from 7-9 a.m., and lunch (soups, burgers and pie) will be served from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

The Women’s Guild of the Tell City Evangelical United Church of Christ will hold its annual Christmas salad luncheon on Thursday, December 5 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall (802 10th Street in Tell City). The luncheon will feature a wide variety of salads, hot chicken casserole, hot drolls, drinks and choice of homemade Christmas cookie for $8 admission at the door. Carry-outs are also available. Clubs and Meetings

North Spencer School Board will meet Monday, November 25 at 6 p.m. at the corporation office in Lincoln City.

Dale American Legion Post 444 members will meet Monday, November 25 at 6 p.m. at the Post Home.

Grandview Civic Association will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Novembver 26 at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center in Grandview. John Varner will give a short talk on his experiences in the U. S. Military-Army. The public is invited to attend. Refreshments will be served.

The Executive Board of the Indiana 15 Regional Planning Commission will meet Tuesday, November 26, at 6:30 p.m. EST at the Commission’s office located at 221 E. First Street in Ferdinand.

Dale Kiwanis meets every Monday from 12-1 p.m. at Jenk’s Pizza in Dale. Guests and new members are always welcome.

Kiwanis Club of South Spencer meets at Angelo’s Pizza in Rockport every Tuesday from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m.

Health and wellness

Free childhood immunizations through the Spencer County Health Department will be offered Tuesday, November 26 from 8-10 a.m. at the Community Action Center in Dale. Appointments are preferred by calling 812-649-4441. Bring your child’s shot record and insurance card to file your insurance.

Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper offers a Bariatric Support Group for individuals who have had weight loss surgery. The purpose of this group is to provide support, information sharing and education. The Bariatric Support Group meets the second Monday of each month, with the next meeting scheduled for Monday, December 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the Medical Arts Conference Center, which is located at 721 W. 13th Street in Jasper in the Medical Arts Building. Participation in this group is free of charge and no pre-registration is required. Spencer County Council on Aging provides a SWIRCA meal at 11:30 a.m. Monday-Thursday in the Lincoln Manor Community Room, 714 Sycamore St., Rockport. Suggested donation is $3.50 for those 60 and older. Food stamps are accepted. Reservations must be called in 24 hours in advance at 812-649-9828. The meal site is closed on Fridays. Activities such as bingo and games are scheduled throughout the month after lunch.

Lincoln Heritage Public Library:

Both branches will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 28 and 29, for Thanksgiving.

• All veterans are welcome to Veterans Coffee Hour at the library on Monday, November 25 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Guest speaker will be Butch Meredith from the Spencer County Veterans Services Office. Attendees will also enjoy free cookies and coffee.

• Patrons 50 and older are invited to Senior Social Hour on Monday, November 25 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Coloring, crosswords, jigsaw puzzles and refreshments will be available during the hour.

• S.T.E.M. Challenge Club will meet Tuesday, November 26 from 3:30-4:45 p.m. This program is open to kids 4 and older and allows participants access to numerous S.T.E.M. building kits with challenges.

• Feature Flix and Popcorn Bar will be held Wednesday, November 27 from 10:30-12:10 p.m. Kids of all ages are invited to watch Toy Story 4 and enjoy popcorn.

• Patrons 18 and older are invited to After Hours Crafting on Monday, November 25 from 6-7 p.m. Participants will make their own Christmas wreaths. All materials will be provided by the Chrisney Friends group. Call the library to register, as this program is limited to 12 participants.

• Chrisney Friends of LHPL will hold their annual holiday meal on Tuesday, November 26 from 5:30-7 p.m. Members and anyone interested in becoming a member of the Friends group are asked to bring a covered dish or dessert. Abe Lincoln American Legion Post 444 in Dale is offering a free Wednesday night meal to all new members who join between now and the end of 2019.
