Members of the Evansville Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will present a free concert on Saturday, October 26, at 3 p.m. Central Time at Saint Meinrad Archabbey Church, St. Meinrad. Organists Neal Biggers, Rachel Luttrull, Nikolai Peek and Robert Nicholls will perform compositions by Vierne, Pachelbel, Buxtehude, Marchand, Bach, Briggs, Cochereau and other composers. The program is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the Guest House and student parking lots. Derby Dinner Playhouse in Clarksville is currently presenting Ken Ludwig’s Baskerville, A Sherlock Holmes Mystery through November 10. The play is a murderously funny adventure in which Sherlock Holmes must crack the mystery of “The Hound of the Baskervilles” before a family curse dooms its newest heir. Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden’s annual Boo at the Zoo will be held this weekend, October 25-27. The event features family-friendly Halloween fun with live entertainment, trick-or-treating, storytelling, animal encounters, costume prizes and more. Tickets are $8 (and free for one-year-olds and infants), and can be purchased online at www.meskerparkzoo.com or in the Zoo Gift Shop. Church News

Zion’s United Church of Christ, located at 23 South College Street in Chrisney, will hold its annual fall bazaar from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. this Saturday, October 26. Soup, sandwiches, pies and ice cream will be available. There will also be baked goods and crafts at the country store. The public is invited to attend.

Richland Christian Church will be hold its annual Trunk-N-Treat on Thursday, October 31 from 6-8 p.m. The event will include inflatables, hayrides, face painting, door prizes, games and, of course, candy. For the safety of children, no one over the age of 12 will be allowed to enter with a mask on and candy will be given by authorized people only. The event will be held inside if raining and will be rescheduled in case of severe storm warnings. Free hot dogs, chips and drinks will be available. A free will offering will be accepted for the Christian Resource Center.

St. James Lutheran Church in Holland will hold its annual Thanksgiving supper on Saturday, November 2. Serving begins at 4 p.m. and is buffet style for dine-in or carry-out. The meal will include turkey, ham, homemade dumplings, as well as side dishes, salads and desserts. Adult dinners are $10 and meals for children 12 and under are $4. A “Goodie Shoppe” with baked goods will also be set up during the supper.

St. Martin Of Tours Church, Siberia, will hold a Ham Shoot on Sunday, November 3, beginning at 10 a.m. CDT. There will be a ham shoot, spatter boards, bingo, raffle, country store, and plenty to eat. Community Table, a mission ministry of Dale Presbyterian Church, serves a free meal year round, every Thursday evening except holidays, at the Micah Center, 6 North Main St. in Dale. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., meal served 5:30-6:30 p.m., doors close at 7 p.m.

Clubs and Meetings

North Spencer School Board will meet Monday, October 28 at 6 p.m. at the corporation office in Lincoln City.

Dale American Legion Post 444 members will meet Monday, October 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Post Home. 

Dale Kiwanis meets every Monday from 12-1 p.m. at Jenk’s Pizza in Dale. Guests and new members are always welcome.

Kiwanis Club of South Spencer meets at Angelo’s Pizza in Rockport every Tuesday from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. 

Health and wellness

Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center is offering a Heartsaver CPR class from 5:30–9:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 7 in the Health and Wellness Classroom at Memorial Southside Office, 1100 West 12th Avenue in Jasper. This American Heart Association course is designed for lay personnel who serve as rescuers as part of their job responsibilities and for the general public who have direct access to an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Skills taught include CPR, AED use, and relief of choking in adults, children and infants. In order to complete the course and receive the course completion card, participants must successfully complete a skills evaluation. Pre-registration is required. The fee for the course is $65, and the class does require prepayment. Generations, Area 13 Agency on Aging & Disability, will host a Caregiver Connection event on November 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Green Activities Center on the campus of Vincennes University. This is a day designed specifically for family caregivers (or those who care for friends, neighbors, etc) of those with Alzheimer’s. Keynote speaker will be author Deborah Day Laxson. The Alzheimer’s Association will provide caregiving information, and CICOA Aging and In-Home Solutions will speak on a new Indiana initiative – Dementia Friends Indiana. Spencer County Council on Aging provides a SWIRCA meal at 11:30 a.m. Monday-Thursday in the Lincoln Manor Community Room, 714 Sycamore St., Rockport. Suggested donation is $3.50 for those 60 and older. Food stamps are accepted. Reservations must be called in 24 hours in advance at 812-649-9828. The meal site is closed on Fridays. Activities such as bingo and games are scheduled throughout the month after lunch.

Lincoln Heritage Public Library:

Kids of all ages are welcome to stop by either branch during regular hours for trick-or-treating on Thursday, October 31. 

Dale Branch (812-937-7170)

• The Dale Friends of LHPL Fall Used Book Sale is being held now through Saturday, October 26 during regular library hours. A wide variety of books, books on CD, VHS tapes and DVDs will be available for purchase at low prices. All proceeds help fund programs and activities at the library. 

• All military veterans are welcome to Veterans Coffee Hour on Monday, October 28 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Lynn Lefgren with the Veteran History Project will be present to do recorded interviews with interested veterans that will be submitted to the Library of Congress. Veterans can also simply free cookies and coffee during this time. 

• Senior Social Hour will be held Monday, October 28 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Patrons 50 and older are invited to a free hour of coloring, crosswords, jigsaw and refreshments.

• Kids 8 and older are invited to Board Game Play Day on Tuesday, October 29 from 3:30-4:45 p.m.

• Bite-Sized Bookworms, a storytime for kids 3-6 years old, is offered every Tuesday from 9:30-10:15 a.m. and every Thursday from 10:45-11:30 a.m. Free and no registration required.

• Tiny Tales, a storytime for ages 6 months-35 months, is offered every Wednesday from 9:30-10 a.m. Free and no registration required. 

• Music and Movement storytime is offered every Wednesday from 1-1:45 p.m. for kids age 3-6 years old. Free and no registration required.

• A “Not Your Mother’s Yoga” class is offered every Thursday from 9:15-10:15 a.m. This free class is for anyone 18 and older, and registration is recommended. 

• Genealogy assistance is available to patrons every Wednesday from 1-4 p.m.

Chrisney Branch (812-362-8471)

• Chrisney Friends of LHPL’s annual Holiday Silent Auction will begin Thursday, October 24 and run through Thursday, November 7. Stop by the library during regular hours to check out all the great items up for auction, all of which have been donated by area businesses and individuals. Many items at the silent auction make great Christmas gifts. All proceeds will go toward the Chrisney branch’s children’s area and programming. 

• Chrisney Library’s third annual Treats on the Trail will be held Friday, October 25 from 3:30-6 p.m. Stop by the library anytime during this time for free food (hot dogs, chips and water). Patrons of all ages are welcome at this free event. Rain location will be at Chrisney Elementary. 

• An After-Hours Crafting session will be held Monday, October 28 from 6-7 p.m. Adult patrons are invited to make their own candy corn trick-or-treat wall hanging. Call the library to register, as the program is limited to 12 participants. All materials will be provided by Chrisney Friends of LHPL. 

• Kids 8 and older are invited to Board Game Play Day on Wednesday, October 30 from 3:30-4:45 p.m. 

• First Friday Family Fun will return Friday, November 1 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Patrons of all ages are invited to this event to create Thanksgiving table decorations and enjoy pumpkin treats. Registration is appreciated by calling the library. 

• Bite-Sized Bookworms, a storytime for kids 3-6 years old, is offered every Monday from 10-10:45 a.m. Free and no registration required.

• Chrisney Pacemakers Walking Club meets every Thursday from 5-6 p.m. at the library. All ages are welcome to join.

• Genealogy assistance is available to patrons on Mondays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Free delivery services are available for all Lincoln Heritage Public Library area homebound residents in North Spencer. Patrons may request large print books, paperbacks, books on CD, music CDs, magazines, word puzzles and DVDs, as well as items for the visually impaired — all at no cost. Rockport Branch (812-649-4866)

• Kids of all ages are invited to the library’s Halloween party on Saturday, October 26. The event is an open house and will run from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Enjoy Halloween games, crafts, and food.

• The Rockport Branch is hosting a Halloween celebration on Thursday, October 31. During regular library hours, kids can stop by for a movie, candy, a walk-through spooky display and photo ops.

Miscellaneous

The monthly barbecue cookout at the Abe Lincoln American Legion Post 444 in Dale will be held this Saturday, October 26. Meals include barbecued chicken or barbecued ribs, potato salad and baked beans. Chicken meals are $9, rib meals are $10 and a rack of baby back ribs is $20. Call ahead at 812-937-4025 to pre-order as meals tend to sell out quickly. 

Right to Life of Spencer County will hold a bulk turtle soup and bake sale on Sunday, October 27. Serving begins at 10:30 a.m. at Dale City Park. Bring own gallon container to purchase soup.
