Charles Jr. Smith, 79, of Owensboro, Kentucky passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Heartford House in Owensboro, Kentucky with his daughter by his side.
Charles was born in Spencer County on December 11, 1944, to Cecil and Lucille (Payne) Smith.
Charles was a top-notch athlete at Rockport High School, playing baseball, running track, and playing football and basketball. He was the bingo king at Wellington Parc. He loved I.U., especially Coach Bob Knight, and enjoyed rabbit hunting, raising beagles, old cars, his coffee buddies at Burger King and his hunting buddies, Jerry and Steve. He had worked as a ham boner at Field Packing Company.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brother, J.C. Smith, and his sister, Louise McDaniel.
He is survived by his daughter, Connie Hess and her husband, Tim; his brothers, Larry Smith and his wife, Vickie, and Victor Smith; his sisters, Virginia Adams and Sally Adams; his granddaughter, Christina Deason and her husband, Robbie; his great-grandchildren Gage Hagan, the apple of Papaw’s eye, Kinsley Deason, Kaleb Deason, and Elliott Deason.
Services are 1 p.m. Monday, April 29, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, with Pastor Larry Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
