Cheryle Jean Smith, 75, of Tell City, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. She spent her final days surrounded by those who loved her.
Cheryle was born to Coy and Zelta Smith in Fort Smith, Arkansas on June 6, 1948.
She was a 1966 graduate of Tell City High School and went on to earn her associates degree from Lockyear Business College. She had a long career as an Administrative Assistant and Stenographer, ultimately serving as the Executive Assistant to the President at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Huntingburg until she retired in 2000.
Singing brought her great joy – whether it be in church, to Reba or Sandi Patti songs or lullabies to her children. She was gifted with a beautifully distinct voice that she often shared with her children and grandchildren – including at her daughter’s weddings. Cheryle had a empathetic love for animals, especially boxers, and spent time volunteering at local shelters as a foster ‘mom’, but her greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren.
Cheryle is survived by her older brother Carl ‘Don’; ; her three daughters Michele of Batesville, Amber (Mike) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina and Lindsey (Chris) of Chrisney; and her beloved grandchildren, Toni, Coy, Zack, Abby, Josh, Audrey, Ann and Drew.
Cheryle was preceded in death by her loving parents, Coy and Zelta Smith, and her loyal companion, Patches.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Lincoln State Park Spring Shelter on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m.
