Coroner Layla Thayer presented her deputies with official badges in a brief ceremony Tuesday afternoon before a regular meeting of the Spencer County Commissioners. She thanked the commissioners and county council for supporting the purchase of these badges, which give deputies a means to identify themselves at the scenes of a death.
“A badge has always been a symbol of pride and service provided by the coroner’s office to the people of the county they serve,” Thayer told her assembled deputies. “Wearing the badge shows a symbol of authority granted by taking an oath, the duty you uphold and the people you serve. It is a sign of legitimate employment, and is a means of identification. A badge is the most recognizable part of your uniform and it symbolizes trustworthiness, safety and protection to the people of your community. Wear it with pride and always remember that you are representing your coroner, your office and the county in which you live.”
