Dale Golden Aces, under heat coach Lawrence Prusz, held their opening basketball practice session on Thursday, October 26. Three returning lettermen were on hand from last year’s squad which had a 13-10 record.
Gone from last year’s squad via graduation are Pat Arnold, Bill Smith, Tom Schum, Leon Libbert, John Glezen and Gary Flamion.
The returning lettermen, Bill Winkler, David Grundhoefer, and Stan Guth are expected to relieve a great deal of help from Seniors Van Kaiser, Lonnie Sallee, juniors: Tom Winkler, Gary Grundhoefer and John Schroer.
A lack of overall size presents somewhat of a drawback in the front court but this could be overcome with enthusiastic and aggressive board play.
Candidates that are likely to handle the back court chores are Van Kaiser, 5-10 1/2 , Gary Grundhoefer, 5-4, and Stan Guth 5-10.
Forward positions will be filled by Dave Grundhoefer, 5-11, Tom Arnold, 5-11 1/2, Lonnie Sallee, 3-10 1/2, and John Schroder, 5-9.
In the slot will be Bill Winkler, 6-3, along with cousin Tom Winkler, 6-1 1/2, who will alternate at forward and center positions.
Sophomores Wayne Rudy, Dicky Walker, and Roger Forler, could present a challenge to the above positions.. Other sophomores slated to see action on the Reserve team are Dennis Weber, Larry Estes, Mike Ward, Carter Winkler, Joe Kaiser, Richard Birchler, Kenneth Musgrave, Ronnie Reinhart, James Hevron, and James Potter.
James Giovanetti will again will again asset in guiding the Reserves and Freshmen teams.
Carmen Stapleton will be in charge of all Grade Basketball activities.
