Burning food sets off alarm

Ferdinand Fire Department was called to 1440 Main Street at 11:30 a.m. last Wednesday to a report of a fire alarm sounding. Upon arriving, firefighters found that a resident of that address had left food unattended on the stove, causing it to burn and activate the smoke alarm. Four trucks and 13 personnel were on scene for approximately five minutes. Ferdinand Police department provided assistance.

Three arrested after welfare check

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 23, officers with the Ferdinand Police Department were called for a welfare check on a female who was walking on the overpass of the interstate. The investigation led officers to the Quality Inn to meet two subjects with whom the female was traveling. After further investigation, officers determined all three individuals were in possession of syringes. Arrested were 30-year-old Genelle Biggle of West Virginia, charged with Possession of a Syringe and Possession of Paraphernalia; 37-year-old Amanda Bootier of North Carolina, charged with Possession of a Syringe and Possession of Paraphernalia; and 61-year-old Mark Webb of West Virginia, charged with Possession of a Syringe. All three were transported to the Dubois County Security Center. Ferdinand Police were assisted by the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police. 

Jasper Police Department

Man charged with strangulation, domestic battery

Jasper Police received a call from a female subject at 7 p.m. last Wednesday, advising that she had been involved in a domestic dispute with her husband and that he had left on food after the incident. The male subject, later identified as 25-year-old Jace Goepferich of Jasper, was apprehended a short time later and allegedly had marijuana and paraphernalia in his possession. After further investigation, it was determined Goepferich had battered and choked the female victim. He was transported to the Dubois County Security Center on charges of Strangulation, Domestic Battery, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Paraphernalia.
