Barn destroyed in fire

At 12:02 p.m. last Friday, May 29, Ferdinand Firefighters responded to a structure fire at Blue Meadow Farms, 879 East 1100 South. Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found a 60’x30’ barn fully engulfed and collapsed on itself. St. Henry and St. Anthony were called for tanker assistance, and Sitzman Construction was contacted to tear apart the remaining building with a trackhoe. The barn, as well as the tractor and grinder inside, were total losses. A cow that was inside the barn died as well. According to the report, the fire is believed to have been started from the tractor. Twenty-seven personnel and six trucks were on scene for approximately 2.5 hours. Ferdinand Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Ferdinand Police Department, St. Henry and St. Anthony fire departments, and Memorial EMS.

Driver cited after collision

Jamie Garay Rivera, 54, of Jasper, was eastbound on 13th Street when her 2009 Toyota Corolla was struck by a southbound Kenworth Semi driven by 61-year-old Franklin Nolley of Loogootee, who had allegedly disregarded a lighted signal. Rivera complained of chest pain but refused treatment by EMS at the scene; her car was deemed a total loss in the May 29, 5:35 a.m. collision. Nolley was not injured but received a citation for disregarding a lighted signal; the semi he was driving sustained approximately $1,700 in damage.

Arrested on multiple drug charges

Jasper Police were dispatched to 317 W. Fourth Street on May 27 in reference to a male subject who had possibly overdosed. After a brief investigation, officers obtained a search warrant for the residence, where they located multiple drug articles. Eugenia Neukam, 46, of Jasper, was taken into custody on misdemeanor charges of possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and possession of a device or substance to interfere with a drug or alcohol screen test, as well as felony charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a hypodermic needle, possession of a legend drug and maintaining a common nuisance. Neukam was lodged in the Dubois County Security Center on the charges. Jasper Police were assisted at the scene by Memorial EMS, Dubois County Sheriff’s Office and the Dubois County Prosecutor’s Office.
