Gary Ahrens, 82, of Rockport, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at his home.

Gary was born in Evansville on April 12, 1938, to Alfred R. “Butch” and Eleanor (Stremming) Ahrens.

Gary was an associate member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and was an organist at five churches over a span of 60 years. He was also a member of the Evansville Symphonic Band for many years. 

He had been a music teacher for many years at South Spencer High School, retiring from Heritage Hills High School and was instrumental in inspiring many students’ love of music. Gary and his wife, Cornelia owned and operated Ahrens Tree Farm for many years.

Gary is survived by his wife of 61 years, Cornelia Ahrens, of Rockport; his children, Sharon Coussens and her husband, David, of Little Rock, AR, Steve and his wife, Stacy, of Evansville and Keith Ahrens and his wife, Kimberly, of Evansville; grandchildren, Caroline Coussens, David Coussens, Kendyl Ahrens, Austin Ahrens and his wife, Riley, Ali Ahrens, Kramer Daugherty and her husband, Travis, Peyton Ahrens and Keaton Ahrens; and great-grandchildren, Kahlo and Quincy.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 9, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Rockport, with Pastor Marcia Carpenter officiating. 

Friends may call from 12 p.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church

Boultinghouse Funeral Home of Rockport has been entrusted with care.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Evansville Symphonic Band, Trinity United Methodist Church or Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
