James E. “Jim” Krutz, 82, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2022.

He was born in Magnet, on August 8, 1940 to Starling DeWalt Krutz and Mary “Evaline” (Anson) Krutz Litherland.

Jim was united in marriage on October 1, 1960 with Thelma Schraner. They were married 47 years, until her passing in 2007.

At the early age of 15, Jim had to go to work and he began farming at Foster Park’s Farm. This would begin his love of farming and animals. He also worked for Billy Miller’s Farm, Mulzer’s, Kelco Mining, Spencer Coal, Warrick County Coal and Perry County Highway Department, after which he became a full-time farmer. Jim would often welcome friends and children over to see the livestock and pets, especially if they appreciated animals as much as he did.

He was a founding member of Southern Indiana Draft Horse and Mule Association where he and his wife, Thelma, hosted numerous hog roasts and wagon rides.

Jim took pride in helping people with herbs and natural remedies. He first opened Herbs and Health Care in Tobinsport, when the Reuben Schwartz family lived there, later moving it to Tell City. Jim was an avid story teller and always welcomed people with a smile and handshake.

Surviving are his children, Kathy Krutz, Tell City, Cindy Jones (Carl), Derby and Lisa Krutz Hohl, Ferdinand, whom he thought of like a daughter; his faithful and dedicated companion, Linda M. Dilger; grandchildren, Carl Allen Jones, II (Sarah), Verna Jones, Brandi Richardson (Ryan), Tara James (Derek) and Neil Jones; and great-grandchildren, Skyler Jones, Chase James, Kyra Jones, Carter James, Caden James, Brynna Richardson, Lyla James, Gracie Jones, Andi Richardson, Loren Jones, Weston Jones and Emmett James. Jim had many friends whom he considered like family, especially the Rueben and Lizzie Schwartz family.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Thelma (Schraner) Krutz; a son, James Allen Krutz; brothers, Irvin Krutz and S.B. Krutz and sisters, Phoebe Dell Krutz and Violet Patterson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. CST on Thursday, December 1, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, with Brother Harry McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in Lilly Dale Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
