James Henry Beckort, 88, of Grandview, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at his home.

Jim was born in Spencer County on June 14, 1931, to the late Roy Wayne Beckort and Mabel (Adams) Beckort Schraner.

A member of Lincoln Hills Baptist Church, he was a faithful servant of God and had been on several mission trips. 

Jim had served in the United States Army, was a 60 year member of Rockport American Legion Post 254 and a member of their Color Guard.

He had been a mail carrier with the United States Postal Service for nearly 20 years and enjoyed helping Bernard Hurm and Bobby Ray on their farms. He also enjoyed fishing, vegetable gardening and camping.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Lola Mae Beckort; an infant daughter, Pamela Jane Beckort; and by four sisters and two brothers.

Jim is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Massey) Beckort of Grandview; daughters, Cheryl Simons and her husband, Jeff, of Rockport and Cindy Flores and her husband, Jesus, of Huntingburg; stepson, Raymond Wallace; grandchildren, Shari Percifield, Wesley Horn, Chrystal Cruz, Amber Valezquez and Justin Adams; step-grandchildren, Jerad Wallace and Audrey Wallace; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Fred Beckort and Margie Schraner.

Visitation will take place from 12 until 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport.

A graveside service and burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 6, at Grandview Cemetery in Grandview, with Reverend Joe Greene officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Oneida Baptist Institute and the American Cancer Society.
