Jan “Cliff” Holzman, 82, St. Meinrad

Jan Lee “Cliff” Holtzman, 82, of Saint Meinrad, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Memorial Hospital in Jasper. 

Jan was born February 28, 1937 in Tell City to Albert and Thelma (King) Holtzman. He was a graduate of Tell City High School, Class of 1955, where he was an athletic standout in sports. He continued track and field at Indiana State University. 

Jan retired from GE in Tell City after 31 years, and then began working for St. Meinrad Archabbey for many years. He was an avid hunter, train enthusiast, and wood worker. His memberships included Ducks Unlimited, the 40/8, United States Naval Reserves and St. Meinrad K of C No. 5599. Jan was also a member and past commander of Tell City American Legion Post 213.

Survivors include his companion, Rita Phillips of St. Meinrad; one brother, Gene (Rachael) Holtzman of Tell City; two sons, Mark (Jackie) White of Jeffersonville and Mike White of Colorado; Rita’s children, Donnie (Shirley) Phillips of Lima, OH, Mike (Kasha) Phillips of Patronville, and Shirley (Tom) Russell of Jasper; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. CST on Wednesday November 13 at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Deacon James Woebkenberg will officiate. Burial with military graveside rites will follow in St. Mark’s Church Cemetery in Perry County. 

Friends may call for visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. CST Tuesday and 7 to 9:30 a.m. CST Wednesday at the funeral home.
