Joe Billy Boyd, 88, of Rockport, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh.


Bill was born in Spencer County on January 28, 1932, to the late Edwil “Buster” and Mamie (McCallister) Boyd.


His service in the United States Army during the Korean War earned him a Purple Heart. He was a member and past commander of Rockport American Legion Post 254.


Bill owned and operated Bill and Carrol’s Tavern in Tennyson. He also enjoyed sports, especially Legion Baseball.


In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Sally (Niles) Boyd; his brother, Elmer Boyd; and his sisters, Elode Gentry and Dianne Hoofer.


He is survived by his companion, Carrol Morris of Tennyson; his children, Beth Blair (Tim) of Rockport; Kathy Baldridge (Bill) of Sherwood, OR; Jake Boyd (Barb) and Sheila Rininger, all of Rockport; ten grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.


A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 30, 2020 at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Rockport, with Pastor Carl Jones officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport.
