Judith “Judy” Ann McCorkle, a woman who was fiercely independent and unapologetically herself, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was 86.
Born in Grandview, on October 12, 1939, to Ralph Ayer and Geneva Haines, Judy’s life was defined by her devotion to those she loved. In 1958, she married Rex McCorkle, beginning a 60-year journey that took them across the country before they finally settled in Owensboro.
While Judy was a dedicated homemaker and mother, the role she cherished above all others was that of “Granny.” Her grandchildren were her world, and she poured her entire heart into them. Known for her “servant’s heart,” Judy had an intuitive kindness for those struggling, often reaching out to ensure people knew they were cared for. Her compassion extended to all living things; she was a lifelong animal lover who famously rescued and raised a pet squirrel.
Judy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rex, whom she missed dearly; her parents; her brothers, Jerry and Garry Ayer; and sisters-in-law, Ruth and Carol Ayer.
Her legacy of hard work and independence lives on in her children, Jan (Lee Etta) McCorkle and Stephanie (Larry) Williams; her granddaughters, Molly (Alex) Marshall and Maggie (Colby) Brooks; and her three precious great-grandchildren, Oliver, Henry, and Mia.
There will never be another woman quite like Judy. Per her request, no services will be held. In honor of Judy’s lifelong love for animals, those who wish to remember her may make a donation to the Owensboro Humane Society or SPARKY.
